Text Box: Dr. Mary Bigler is a Professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  Mary received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Aquinas College, Master of Arts degree in History, and a Master of Arts degree in Reading from Eastern Michigan University, and a Ph. D. in Curriculum and instruction from the University of Michigan.  Her teaching experiences include 14 years at the K-12 level and 26 years as a university professor.  Dr. Bigler, holds the prestigious Distinguished Teaching Award from Eastern Michigan University and the Outstanding Faculty Award from the Eastern Michigan University Alumni Association.  Dr. Bigler is internationally known as a motivational speaker and consultant.  She has keynoted conferences, programs, and inservice meetings throughout the United States, Canada, Africa, and Europe, sharing the podium with such notables as Jesse Jackson, Ann Landers, and Zig Zigler.  She has conducted hundreds of workshops on reading and writing for teachers, administrators, and parents.  Dr. Bigler has appeared on numerous radio and television programs.  She has served as an advisior to governmental and educational institutions as well as to business and industry.  Mary is a past president of the Michigan Reading Association and is listed in Who’s Who of American Women.
