Thematic units provide a hands on way to cover curriculum skills while holding the interests of students and teachers. We will show you how to plan and implement a theme by sharing how our students created the arctic environment with life-size animals.


Presentation: The Reading-Writing Connection

Learning to read and write occurs most effectively when children are exposed to and participate in reading and writing activities which have meaning for them. At this workshop primary teachers will learn lots of strategies for teaching writing skills through the use of environmental print, journals and the making of class and individual books.

Face reality as you learn about a fun homework program that has students reading 150 books a year. Also, learn about ways to successfully interact with parents and create positive classroom memories that last a lifetime!

Using space as a common theme we will integrate literature math, science, language, music and art through the K-1 curriculum. We will take you step-by-step through (2) art lessons. Each participant will receive a handout compiled especially for the conference.

I have spent 28 years developing a method for taking kindergarten students from letter recognition to reading and writing stories IN A DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE way. I will outline steps and teacher-made materials with a video demonstration. This is similar to "calendar math" and can be used in any setting.

Come and join us for some wet and wild water animal adventures. We will swim in the seas and lay in the ponds. Utilizing water animals from fish to frogs, we will explore language arts, math and art activities. Don’t miss the boat – join us for a swimmingly good time.
